January Book

THE RULE OF ONE by Ashley Saunders

“Ava and Mira’s world is an all-too-believable mix of advanced technology and environmental collapse. In their debut, Saunders and Saunders, themselves twins, lend an authentic voice to the girls’ first-person narration…Readers are in for a fast-paced ride, poised for a sequel, as the twins embrace their father’s call, in the words of Walt Whitman, to ‘resist much, obey little.’” Kirkus Reviews

Before We Were Yours: A NovelTHE BLOCKBUSTER HIT—A New York TimesUSA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Publishers Weekly Bestseller

For readers of Orphan Train and The Nightingale comes a “thought-provoking [and] complex tale about two families, two generations apart . . . based on a notorious true-life scandal.”*

I'm liking this link and the books that Reese Witherspoon selects.

I think we have a few more good links on the side bar.

The Rent Collector

One of the best discussions ever!  Kelly took us to this book. We didn't know we could like it so much. Not 100% popular, because it was a dark and dank existence in the dump. But what an insight to literacy and what it can mean.
Very different book which gave us a very different look at life.
The Rent Collector

By Invitation Only

By Invitation Only: A Novel
Lisa selected a really fun read for summer. We all enjoyed the southern charm at he peach farm and the cold of Chicago where the unraveling begins.   All ends well and it was great fun!  And thanks to Kathy who was our substitute host - lovely food and beverages (as usual)

Coming up next: The Rent Collector by Camron Wright
The Rent CollectorSurvival for Ki Lim and Sang Ly is a daily battle at Stung Meanchey, the largest municipal waste dump in all of Cambodia. They make their living scavenging recyclables from the trash. Just when things seem worst, Sang Ly learns a secret about the ill-tempered rent collector who comes demanding money--a secret that sets in....

Good Ideas for Future Reading

I noticed the third book down set in Shaker Heights, Ohio.  We lived just next to that area while Dave went to NCR tech schools.   In fact all the books sound good and several are being made into movies!

#1 Ladies Detective Agency

The Making of #1 Ladies Detective Agency HBO Series:

I finally got this up on the blog. Warning: it takes a bit of time to upload.
Be patient.
You might have faster results going to youtube and watching.
If that's not your cup of tea, follow this link.

(I added "the making of" to my google search. I think that overall one is really informative)
But any one of the episodes will introduce you to the characters, the landscape,
the culture and the clothing.
No hiding it -  I'm enchanted.
Please look at one episode before our next book club.
And thank you!
